Rage Against This

9 Apr

There are several musicians/bands that make my skin crawl.  One of them-perhaps the worst of the worst-is on the radio right this very second.  Note how I’m too lazy to get up, cross the room, and change the station.  Instead, I shall bitch to you about my hatred for said “musical” group.

Have you ever noticed that EVERY SINGLE SONG by Rage Against the Machine sounds EXACTLY alike??  Every single one is Zack what’s-his-face shreaking and yelling.  Me no likey.  He reminds me of a cat in heat.  A very loud screachy cat in heat.  Why do people want to listen to that?

Oh joy, the song is now over and followed by another band that I hate: Green Day.  I don’t care what road you walk along.  Also, don’t care about your shadow being the only one that walks beside you.  Don’t care.

This is the pain and suffering that one goes through for being so lazy.  I’m on the verge of throwing myself down the stairs. Problem is that I’d have to get up to do that, and I’d pass the stereo on the way and changing the station would save me.  Maybe I’ll just visualize throwing myself down the stairs…

There is one musician that would have me flying across the room-literally flying.  Neil Young singing sounds like nails on the chalkboard.  Seriously, my ears bleed any time I’m forced to listen to him.

That is all.

Wake Me Up When September Ends is the worst song in the history of the worst songs ever. It just goes on and on and on and on and …you get the idea.

Pretty much any song they sing is the worst song in the history of the worst songs ever. I hate them. -CS

i know what you mean, my 10 year old son has discovered “death metal”. i’m not really liking it too much, but i am excited that he is starting to enjoy music and develop his own tastes. he should just like something more pleasing to me 🙂

Have a blast with that. No, really. Enjoy. -CS

  3. Sounds like somebody needs to stop listening to shitty radio stations.

The crazy thing is that they’re usually pretty good. Until now. -CS

Can’t support you here…Rage is the best speeding/exercise music…plus if I ever tear apart my job and burn it down…I think Rage will be a good soundtrack.

Ugh, just the thought makes me want to burn something. -CS

I feel the same way about Neil Young. All that nasally warbling makes me want to go kick the sh*t out of some hippies.

Another band who’s been doing the same song since about 1988 or so is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I hate them with the white-hot intensity of a hundred thousand bolts of lightning.

You are totally right about the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I think that they’re basically just releasing the same song over and over again. -CS

Rage is a headliner for this year’s Lollapalooza. I will be avoiding their set like the plague.

Know what? I’d rather have the plague than watch them perform live. -CS

let’s see…james taylor and bob dylan make me want to rip my face off!

Sweet baby Jesus laying down his sweet head! I can’t stand either of those 2. Ugh, awful. -CS

Gah! What music do you like? I personally love every band and artist mentioned in your post and the comments. Don’t tell me you’re one of those secret teenyboppers who busts out boy bands and the High School Musical soundtrack whenever she gets the chance – you’ll totally lose your street cred.

You know what? I wrote this just to make you angry! Success!!

I love High School Musical and I’m also a huge fan of NKOTB. So awesome. Kidding. Here’s who I freaking love: Evanesence, Papa Roach, Frank Sinatra, Tori Amos, Cowboy Mouth, The Beatles. See, lots of stuff. -CS

When it comes to music, hard as it is to accept, there’s really no such thing as “bad” taste or “good” taste. Rather, there are people who share your taste and those who don’t. And of course, there can be major points of disagreement even with those with whom you share substantial overlap.

I myself like lots of things, though both Rage… and the Chili Peppers are on my “no” list. I recently dated someone whose two favorite acts were Kanye West and Toby Keith. Really. I LOVE country music (much of it, anyway), but also lots of rock ‘n’ roll. Also old standards. The two acts I saw at Wolf Trap last year were Tony Bennett and Randy Travis. The summer before that, I saw Elvis Costello and the Indigo Girls. I’ve also learned that if I listen to anyone for long enough, I can often appreciate what they’re getting at, even if I don’t become a fan. It’s like how I don’t really dig portraits, but after visiting the Frick museum in NYC I had an appreciation for what made some portraits better than others.

No matter who you are, no matter how cool you think you are and how your taste in music is superior (and deep down, many of us do), remember what Ben Folds told us: “There’s Always Someone Cooler Than You.”

It seems like you like a good mix of music, missy. Here’s an important question: what’s your take on 80’s bands trying to make a comeback? Personally, I like it! Unless we’re talking about New Kids. I freaking hate them with a fiery passion. -CS

I agree. That’s why radio stations should only play Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. Everything else sucks. I don’t think I’ve liked a new singer/band since 1992. All the good bands go undiscovered and the discovered bands make music to sell albums. There’s no experimentation in music and everything is becoming lame now that no one takes chances to do something different.

Um, only sometimes. Beatles yes, Led Zeppelin-maybe.

There are lots of great new bands out. You go out and listen to Evanesence. Go now and like them and don’t bitch about her having a whiny voice. -CS

First you bag on J-Ho, I mean, J-Lo (now you got me doing it!) and now you’re bagging on Rage Against The Machine.

You’re just killing my blog crush on you.

I swear, I’m calling you “Catherinette Wurnos,” from now on.

What do I need to do to win you back? -CS

Feel free anytime to change the station on Green Day but no touching my dials when it comes to Rage Against The Machine and Neil Young, missy!

    Urgh, blech. -CS

Rage is so…blase. I always think of their “Freedom” video from like 1992, where some fat kid shook his fat face, like “Yes! This band gets me!” and I laugh.

But I like some Green Day, though I’m basing that on albums released almost two decades ago when I still listened to music.

The only Freedom song I know of is the one that George Michael sings. Now that’s a good song. -CS

Not a damn thing, actually. I’m still crushing, though Señor DeLaRocha y Señorita Anthony are not amused.

Thank god because I was starting to worry.

Those two can bite me. I don’t care what they think. -CS

If I knew anything about modern music, I’d probably totally aggree with you.

Do you prefer listening to classic tune on the lute and fiddle? -CS

“Those two can bite me. I don’t care what they think.”

    Not even if:

    A) J-Lo renames the twins after you?
    B) They do a duet about Peeptinis?
    C) They do a duet/variation of a Prince song, called “Little Yellow Mustang (Baby, you taste like Tang)?”

    I heart peeptinis. -CS
