It’s A Classic Story

19 Nov

“Calling when you say you’re going to call is the very first brick in the house you are building of love and trust.  If he can’t lay this one stupid brick down, you ain’t never gonna have a house, baby.  And it’s cold outside.” -Greg Behrendt/Liz Tuccillo

It’s always the same story for me.  I fall for the guy and it never works out.

Boy meets at volunteer event.  Girl and boy flirt and then exchange numbers.  Girl sends boy text message but his phone is jacked up and never receives it.  Girl and boy meet up 2 weeks later and re-establish flirting.  Boy asks girl out.  Girls says yes even though she’s 33 and he’s just 25. Boy and Girl make out in her car, and then his yellow Mustang that are parked directly behind the bar for 2 hours.  Boy says he really wants to call girl the next day but says he thinks it’s too pathetic.  Girl tells him it’s not and he promises to call.  Boy and Girl part after he says he can’t wait to take her out. Boy calls the next day but doesn’t leave a message.  Girl sees there’s a missed call and then checks her phone every 15 minutes hoping that he’ll call back. Boy never calls girl again. Girl wonders why she fell for it again. FYI: I have problems.  Maybe therapy isn’t going as well as I thought it was. . .

Um…I think that’s every single woman’s story. Here’s a clue for next time: guys who drive yellow cars and/or Mustangs are trouble. Don’t expect calls.

Also, hasn’t it been approximately two days since meeting, and he did in fact call you the next day? Yeah, definitely go to Defcon 5.

No, it’s been longer than that. The make out session occured Thursday. He “called” Friday, it’s now Monday. -CS

What’s wrong with calling him and saying, “I saw you called.”

But I’ll tell you what IS wrong, someone who drives a yellow car. I really do have something against yellow sports cars ESPECIALLY if a guy is driving it. But that’s just a personal thing. Carry on.

Nope, I won’t do it. If he wants to talk to me, he’ll call me back. If not, then I’ll just bitch about it and then the second I meet someone else, I’ll get distracted. For now, I just want to wallow in my self pity.

Oh, and by the way, my birthday is coming up! -CS

CALL HIM BACK. otherwise, you can’t say that he’s just not that interested b/c I’m talking to more and more guys these days who are wary of crossing into stalker territory. maybe he did leave a message and *your* phone is jacked. CALL HIM BACK.

that is all. oh, and do not listen to greg behrendt. the overall theme of the book was good, but there are too many unknowables in life to write a book to say if he does X, he’s into you, if he does Y, he’s not.

I can’t!! I’m genetically wired to be a pathetic sap and calling him would cause me to have a panic attack because I am lame! He didn’t leave a message, I know he didn’t because I checked my phone just in case.

But come on, if he liked me he would call!! Jesus, I hate feeling like a 6th grader. At 33 (soon to be 34, in 4 days), you’d think I’d grow a pair. Ridiculous. I’m lame. -CS

If you own a yellow car, you should be taking my money and delivering me to my destination.

I was watching Top Gear yesterday. They were reviewing a Mustang and one of the hosts said it was exactly the car he would have if he was the kind of guy who looked at his sister and went “Mmmmmmm”.

I’m filing that away to go with “I’m so sorry about your penis,” for Corvette owners.

Wow, I certainly would hope he’s not involved with his sister. Still, that might explain why he DIDN’T CALL ME! -CS

Dude, you are such a LADY. Call the guy back since he obviously called you. Your head won’t spin round ominously and you’re just returning the call, not falling at his feet in desperation. If he acts like a jerk on the phone YELL “AND QUIT CALLING ME!” before you hang up.

Could make for an interesting birthday…

NO!! I’m not calling him back!! HE DIDN’T LEAVE ME A MESSAGE! I am stubborn and it’s not going to happen. Instead, I will start cursing him and calling him a jerk because I’m so mature about life. -CS

Ahh but deadspot, Mr Clarkson from Top Gear just bought a Lamborghini Gallardo, I’ll give you three guesses what colo(u)r it is ?..scroll up..

And Catherinette, suck it up buttercup and just call him.

But for reference, watching Bridget Jones and Four Weddings and a Funeral and calling it therapy is just sad 😉

Failing all else, go out with the girls and drunk dial him after 4 Martinis.

Wait, are you saying that those movies are not depictions or what happens in real life?? This is news to me!

Love the idea about drunk dialing him. Such a good plan. . . -CS

I heart hot make out sessions. . . -CS

Yeah, I went out a couple of times with a guy I liked quite a bit. The last time he called, I was on a date with my now-bf. I didn’t call back b/c I had a feeling about this guy, and I figured if the other guy really liked me, he would have called again. He has a pretty important job and is really busy, but still. If he didn’t call again, no skin off my nose. There are other fish in the sea.

However, Miss Thing, you’re standing on ceremony with what I’m betting is essentially a booty call. If you’re looking for “something more”, then it makes sense to figure out how into you he is. If you’re just looking for something hot to hit on your big day, I say you go with something like, “Hey, I saw that you called this weekend. I’ve had a crazy few days! What’s up?”

I don’t have time for a booty call this weekend. I am busy and am booked. As much as I would love to get some on my birthday, lord only knows how I could make plans-I’m going to be busy boozing and eating. -CS

Ummm, did anyone tell you to call him back? Because that is what I would suggest. He is probably all worried you are not interested because you didn’t call him back. Did I mention CALL HIM BACK. Sometimes I don’t leave messages because I studder and sound like an idiot, especially when I am nervous and then there is a record of me being an idiot. So in conclusion, MAN UP AND CALL HIM BACK.

I’m confused. What are you saying? Do you think I should call him? -CS

Boy and girl meet. Boy throws brick threw girl’s window. Girl still says yes to going out even though she know’s its not good. What I have learned is to take it slow. The jerks drop out pretty quick.

So when you say “take it slow” does that mean waiting until the 2nd date to hook up behind a bar? -CS

Be brave Catherinette ! I’m just in the process of reading Bridget Jones’s diary again (it’s this time of the year or did i really run out of good books ??) and : one day, we’ll just know better. In the meantime, yeah, call him.

What day will this be? I’m still waiting to wake up one morning and just know how not to be a complete and total headcase. Maybe it’ll happen tomorrow! -CS

    Yello Mustang? Really?
As others above me have stated: You are better off.

It could be worse. It could have been an El Camino. -CS

  13. Gizmo November 19, 2007 at 9:29 pm #

Seriously. Call the boy. He mentioned feeling like a dork calling the next day so he probably nerded out on leaving a message. Just call him back! Even I would do that and I’m the least forward person on the planet.

But I don’t want to have to call!! -CS

  14. Amadeo November 19, 2007 at 9:31 pm #

    Damn, did money get nervous?

    Me confused. . . -CS

If you want a relationship yes. Just a booty call, no.

He’s too young for me to get involved with. I’d call him a diversion. A short term diversion. -CS

  16. Tabbie November 20, 2007 at 6:19 am #

duh, girl. Just duh. Your fingers are not broken… right? You want the make-out sessions to continue, right? And maybe go further? Like to your bed and stuff? He doesn’t have to stay the night. You can kick him out after… whatever. Duh, girl. Dial.

But the cellphone could explode in my hands and cause some major burns. Right? -CS

What is wrong with some guys?! They should be hit with a stick. Hard. On the head!

I do like violence. Maybe I’m just the one to do the hitting. I do have to say that I’d rather be hit on than have to hit someone. -CS

“if he liked me he would call”

He did call. The next day. What you mean is, “if he liked me, he would call and leave a message over and over again.” If he owns a cell phone, he knows that his number popped up as a missed call. He knows that you know that he called. Since you didn’t call him back, he’s thinking, “that’s the last time I’m going to call someone the next day.” I’ll probably meet this guy, think he’s great, and cry when he doesn’t call. Thanks for ruining another one.

It doesn’t count!! He didn’t leave a message so it doesn’t count! If you meet him, perhaps you’ll have to be more specific and tell him that he has to leave a message otherwise it doesn’t count. -CS
